Mohali, July 21:
Mayor Mohali, Amarjeet Singh Sidhu assured that shortage of water supply in few sectors of Mohali will be restored within 24 hours.
He clarified that ensuring water supply in the city is under the purview of the Public Health Department, Punjab. Considering the inconvenience of the people, the Municipal Corporation is adopting alternative solutions by routing water through tube wells. He informed that by today additional 2-4 tube wells will be operative for the convenience of residents.
Mayor gave this information after presiding over a meeting with officers of Punjab Public Health Department. Mayor directed MC Mohali officials to coordinate with Public Health Punjab officials in fast restoration of Kajoli water work.
During the meeting it was apprised that strenuous efforts are being made by the Public Health officers to expedite the repair work of Kajoli water pipe line. It was further informed that repair work of Kajoli water pipe line is the root cause of water shortage in Mohali.
He cited the surged prices of water tanks as unfair practices. He further informed that fair price policy for water supply tanks will soon be brought up after consent with concerned departments and stakeholders. He said that MC, Mohali will ensure that common citizens do not face any inconvenience in an hour of crisis.
Sidhu advised the councillor to carry out an awareness campaign regarding the water borne diseases in view of peak monsoon season. He said that dengue, diarrhoea and cholera cases have been reported high in the city. He also directed MC officials to monitor the areas where water is stagnant. He added that soon a helpline no will be issued where residents can report stagnant water.
Sr Deputy Mayor, Amrik Singh Somal also discussed various issues with Public Health officers. Meeting was attended by the MC Commissioner and Superintending Engineer (SE).
