62 kg of heroin worth Rs.624 crore was recovered from Indira Gandhi International Airport. The heroin was smuggled into India in 126 trolley bags. Significantly, this is by far the largest seizure of heroin through air diversion. The DRI was informed about the consignment of drugs. The team then launched an operation on May 10, dubbed 'Black and White'.
According to sources, when the team reached the spot and conducted a search, 55 kg of heroin was recovered from a trolley bag kept in a cargo. The drugs were smuggled from Uganda to Delhi via Dubai. The DRI team also seized heroin and detained an accused on the spot. After questioning the accused, the team conducted raids at various places in Punjab and Haryana, in which 7 kg of heroin and cash of Rs 50 lakh were also recovered.
